A village we know well
Findon sits just north of Worthing, under the Downs. We are there often.
Findon is a mix. Flint and brick cottages around the village and the Square, older houses that have been added to over the years, and larger detached homes on the edges with room to extend. The two ends of that mix need different handling. A cottage needs patience and the right materials. A big detached house is usually about layout, light and getting the ground floor working properly.
We are based at 51 Northbrook Road in Worthing, so Findon is a short run for us. That matters more than it sounds. Our team gets there early, the same faces turn up each morning, and if something needs a decision we are on site rather than three counties away.
The company is family-run and third generation with 65 years in the trade behind it, and over 30 years of combined experience on the tools. We carry out the whole job with one team, including carpentry and joinery, electrics, plumbing and heating, groundwork, rendering, flooring and roofing, so you are not project managing five separate firms.

Extensions on downland homes
Most of the extension work around Findon is at the back: opening the kitchen up to the garden, adding a family room, or squaring off an awkward original layout. On the larger detached houses there is often room for a side return or a double-storey addition as well.

Flint, brick and older cottages
Older village property is rewarding to work on and unforgiving if it is rushed. Flint and soft brick do not behave like modern blockwork. Solid walls need to breathe. Roof timbers that have been there a century have usually moved, and a new opening has to be propped and supported properly before anything comes out.
Our approach on cottage work is straightforward. We survey what is really there, agree the materials with you before we order them, and match brick, flint and mortar to the existing building as closely as we can. Where the fabric is damp or poorly ventilated we deal with the cause rather than covering it up.
If the property is listed or sits in a conservation area, consent is needed before the work starts and the details have to follow what has been approved. We build to that and work with the local-authority inspector as the job goes on.

Yes. We are based in Worthing, a few minutes down the road, and cover Findon, Findon Valley and the surrounding downland properties. Access and parking are worth discussing at the survey so we can plan deliveries sensibly.
Can you match flint and old brickwork?
We work with what is already on the building rather than the nearest modern equivalent. Brick, flint and mortar are chosen to suit the existing wall and agreed with you before we order anything.
How long will my extension take?
We will not put a number on that before seeing the job, because ground conditions, design and approvals all change it. You get a written programme with your quote so you know the sequence and roughly when each stage happens.
Do I need to bring in other trades?
